blogging in 2017

I’ve spent most of today getting ready to go back to work. I’m one of the lucky buggers out there that doesn’t start until Wednesday so had great joy waking up this morning, at 10am, and basking in the joy that I didn’t have to go to work (trust me, it will hurt like you’ve never seen before tomorrow).

So, I spent the morning finishing off some chores, pretending to do some work and reading some of my fave blogs. It’s tough for me to keep up to date reading them during term time, as school just goes crazy, so I thought I deserved it this morning.

While scouring the blogosphere, I came across Immy May’s blog – a blog that I can’t believe I only found recently, like how did I survive before?! – and on it she had written a post all about blogging hints and tips.

In short, I think it’s one of the best blogging Q&A posts I’ve ever read. It was realistic, made sense and left me feeling inspired. What exactly did I want to achieve with blogging in 2017? Where was I going? How was I going to do it?

Now, I am not one to make goals or resolutions, as you’ll see in an up coming post. I find them a negative influence in my life and always feel like I am setting myself up to fail. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t think about the direction I’m going in or what I’d like to achieve.

So,

What does blogging in 2017 look like for me?

Simply put, I just want to blog. 

Blogging started as a way for me to get out my feelings, putting them down on paper and helping me move forward with my health. I have forgotten the power of just sitting down and writing, how it makes me feel like I’ve realised all my feelings into the atmosphere with an incredible weight being lifted.

Sometimes I forget this. Forget the real reason I started blogging and that’s a poor effort on my part. I get too bogged down caring about where I fit in or if people even care. Well, the bottom line is, do I care? I’m not really doing this for anyone else but myself.

So, in 2017, you can expect to see (semi) regular blogging – I must get past this 0 posts during term time and a billion during the holidays thing – where I continue to talk about my life, mental health and, to be honest, anything that makes me happy (or sad) along the way. I’m aiming for 2-3 posts a week but if I don’t make that, no sweat, sista.

I think this year I’d also like to up my blogging photography game. Don’t get me wrong, I have like a billion photos of myself, friends or places I’ve visited that I can use as feature photos for a post but, let’s be fair, there’s only so many times I can use a candid photo of myself for a post it has absolutely no relation to… my bad. Therefore, expect to see some seriously bad flat lays (oh they’re so beautiful – any tips, please let me know!!!!) that will hopefully turn into some semi-bad flat lays that are kinda bearable.

Which leads nicely into trying to build a wider audience on Instagram (again, any hints and tips welcome!). Recently, I set up an Instagram account just for my blogging and photography bits, as I felt it was important to keep it separate from my personal one which I need to keep private. I’ve already started uploading some older photos I’ve taken, as well as attempting to take part in the 365 photo challenge after a conversation with a friend on Twitter.

Pray for me guys, I’ll need all the help I can get.

  • Ooooh Sarah thank you so much for the mention, I am so happy we have found each others blogs! I definitely think that keeping the pressure off and not being hard on yourself if you have a quiet moment is healthy. I am tryyyying to stick to a lil schedule this year, but only to blog twice a week because I think that may be kinda achievable… We’ll see! Immy x

      Sounds like a great plan to me! Twice a week is what I’m going for too. Blogging & teaching full time gets a bit cray sometimes! x

  • I want to wish you all the best in 2017! Keep blogging and sharing your thoughts, your blog is seriously amazing. I want to improve my photography skills as well. My flatlays are crap, so I need a lot of tips, haha. Anyways, I want to explore new opportunities with my blog this year and maybe try to create a brand since the idea of it fascinates me. But in the end, I just want to blog and share my thoughts, ideas or feelings about certain topics 🙂 x
